A Brief History Of American Kempo Karate
The
art of Kempo, as we know it, began in Hawaii in a settlement named
Palamas. Passed down from teacher to teacher, by the time Kajukenbo
evolved into American Kempo it had become an incredibly diverse &
ever growing system. Kempo is a living entity unto itself, ever changing
to meet the needs of the times & of the practitioner. The concept
was to create a complete fighting system of Martial Arts. It was a
mixture of the hand grabs of Judo / Ju-jitsu, the kicks of Karate and
the hand strikes of Chinese Boxing.
Now
when you look at American Kempo, it has grown as Kempo always will,
using additional techniques from Aikido, Kung-Fu, Chinese Chin-na,
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the five animal system of Shaolin which has
become a household name for Kempo in America. The movement of the Tiger,
Leopard, Dragon, Crane and Snake allow the Martial Artist to be passive
or aggressive depending on specific situations that may occur,
encompassing both linear and circular movements. All this combined with
techniques added through the years make American Kempo an all around
street ready system.
Flexibility,
age and sex have no bearing on our system because the techniques can be
modified for all and kept practical for self defense in these modern
times. Although no system is ever complete, Kempo is ever evolving to
meet the needs of the times and of the practitioners around it.
American
Kempo is a modern and realistic self-defense art, a combination of
ancient fighting techniques and modern scientific principles. Its
special trait is its unending fluid motion. Every move creates a
specific reaction in your opponent. Each reaction gears you to your next
move. Each move flows into the next. This logical and sequential flow
of action is the essence of American Kempo.
Master Dominick Panetta has incorporated many of the different styles of martial arts that he has and continues to train in. The
combination of his Kempo, Tai Chi Chuan, Pekiti-Tirsia and Brazilian
Jui-Jitsu makes American Kempo Martial Arts the ultimate Mixed Martial
Arts School in this area. Kempo will continue to evolve and will always be one of the most effective self defense martial art systems.
